I graduated from Sheffield Hallam University in 2007, where I studied Metalwork and Jewellery. Since leaving I have taken part in exhibitions such as ‘New designers’ in London and ‘inside out’ in Manchester and I am currently selling my work in Oriel Davies gallery in South Wales.
The measurements collection evolved form the discovery of a plastic measuring tape from a Christmas cracker. This inspired me to explore other forms of measurements and different measuring implements. The above aim led me to investigate themes such as body measurements; judging quantities of wealth and labeling the measurements of love.
Text is an important aspect of the work, which presents the measurements as numbers and words. In my work I want the viewer to discover an alternative approach to measuring; and relate to these newly conceived measurements. One of my inspirations is the cotton labels you find inside your clothes and have recreated this but added my own twist to it. Creating a humorous narrative for the labels is done by exchanging washing instructions for advice on how a petite person can appear taller!
I also now work with a range of floral fabrics preserving the material by coating the fabric with an iron on transfer. I feel this gives the material a smooth, silky texture and becomes more durable. I make necklaces, brooches and my most recent collection is my range of earrings. The designs for my earrings were inspired by the small icons found on my love measurement brooch and necklaces. There are cute patterns on sale such as; Red High Heels, Pink Hearts, Diamond Rings, Cupcakes & tiny Mr and Mrs tea cups.
